Pasadena: Potential Looting stopped by Police
Officers have stopped about three incidents of potential looting, including one case involving four women, according to Pasadena Police.
“Prior to breaking the windows or prior to getting into stores, police officers have been … at the location immediately and prevented anybody from actually entering,” said Lt. Bill Grisafe.
Monday night four women were arrested after they were seen with hammers and other tools outside the Bev-Mo! at 885 S. Arroyo Parkway. Following a brief chase, they were booked on attempted commercial burglary and attempted looting charges.
“The nice thing about the looting charge is that zero bail stipulations that are in effect because of COVID don’t affect the looting charge,” Grisafe added.
In March L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey instructed her managers “to allow nonviolent offenders who do not pose a danger to the community to remain outside the criminal justice system during this national emergency,” according to a statement.
Attempted looting is not on the list of “zero bail” offenses.
“Essentially, we don’t want looters to get out because they’ll just, they’ll just be right back at it,” said Grisafe, who added that the four women arrested in the Bev-Mo! case bailed out of jail Tuesday.
One of the other incidents of attempted looting involved people breaking a window at Crown City Loan & Jewelry at 65 E. Colorado Blvd. Sunday night.
“Officers were immediately nearby and were able to stop the unknown subjects from getting in,” Grisafe said.
The suspects took off before officers could get to them.
